Downloads

Installable images for every WatuOS edition. Each one carries its applications, the database and the licence agent — so the machine you install it on needs nothing from the internet to become a working system. Images are for WatuFlex clients and for organisations on the free 30-day trial: sign in to download.

Verify what you downloaded

Always check the image before you write it to a USB stick. A truncated download installs perfectly happily and fails a week later.

# macOS
shasum -a 256 -c watuos-hr-13-amd64.iso.sha256

# Linux
sha256sum -c watuos-hr-13-amd64.iso.sha256

Applications and updates are verified by the box itself against our signing key, which is built into the image. The public half will be published here beside the images. The private half never leaves our build machine.

The machine you install it on

WatuOS should refuse to install below the minimum rather than produce a slow system and an unhappy customer. These three are not negotiable at any installation.

SSD onlyReject mechanical disks. A database on a spinning disk in a dusty office will fail, and it will fail at month-end.
A small UPSA power cut in the middle of a write corrupts the database. This is the cheapest insurance in the whole installation.
Automatic local backupConfigured on the day, not promised for later.
MinimumRecommended
i3-class processori5-class, 2016 or later
8 GB RAM16 GB where several applications run together
240 GB SSD256 GB SSD or larger
Wired EthernetWired Ethernet, fixed local address
TPM 2.0 optionalTPM 2.0 enabled in BIOS — Intel PTT or AMD fTPM

Ex-corporate mini machines from about 2016 onward are the sweet spot, because corporate buyers required TPM 2.0: HP EliteDesk Mini and Elite Slice, Dell OptiPlex Micro, Lenovo ThinkCentre Tiny.

Installing

1Write the ISO to a USB stick of 16 GB or more.
2Boot the target machine from it and choose Install WatuOS. Everything on the disk is erased.
3Answer nothing. The install is automated and takes 15–25 minutes, then reboots itself.
4First boot sets itself up and reboots once more. On the same network, open http://watubox.local:8080 in a browser.
5. ConnectIn the console: Watu Cloud → Connect this box, and paste the one-time token from your sales representative.
6. Backup passphraseYour administrator chooses it, writes it on the handover sheet and keeps it. We never see it, and cannot recover it.
7. Try itWatuHRM → Settings → Sample data: load the industry closest to yours, look around, then remove it before real staff go in.
